Badges are patches, which are displayed to indicate an accomplishment, a symbol of authority, a sign of employment, a student status or identification. School badges are designed, mostly in the shape of a shield, with a school name and logo on it, and they usually carry a motto or slogan as well. These School Badges are issued to all students at the time of admission in any school, and are a must to wear as part of a school uniform. Students may also use different School Badges, besides the School Badges that are part of their school uniform. These are given to them to denote their qualifications and achievements. These can include ones that are not necessarily a part of their school uniform, such as awards for being a School Prefect, Mentor, Librarian or for being a member of a school band, sports team etc.

 

School Desktop Awards

 

I work at a secondary school in the area and we have recently finished for the summer break. The last week of term is always a rewarding one as we have whole school assemblies where we give out school awards for the most outstanding students of the year. These school awards are not just given out to the most academically successful students. We as a school think that it would be wrong just to honour academic success without thinking of other ways in which students excel. We therefore give school awards for sporting achievement as well as outstanding achievements in drama and music. We had a wonderful assembly where a student who has learning difficulties received an award because he surpassed all expectations in achieving four GCSEs. The amount of work he had to put in to achieve this was phenomenal and it was a really touching moment when he received his award. Similarly, another student who finds the academic side of school very difficult and underachieves in every subject shone in his contribution to the school choir. He was so proud when he was recognised for his talent in this area.

 

School Pens

 

I work in the English department of a local secondary school and part of my job is to order the stationary supplies for the department. This includes everything from exercise books to school pens and, as you can imagine, the department seems to need an almost never ending supply! School pens are given out as a matter of course to all students but, needless to say, they are always losing them. Therefore, school pens are on order almost every week. It is a similar story with exercise books although these do seem to last a little bit longer than pens without getting lost. It is astounding to me how young people take such little care of their belongings these days and I recently talked to my Head of Department about introducing a charge for students who continually lost their equipment. She thought this was a great idea and, after a trial run of charging students for pens and exercise books in the English Department, the whole school has decided to adopt this policy. My job has become much easier as a result because, as you might expect, there are far less pens and exercise books being lost now that students have to pay for their own replacements.

 

Star Motivational Badges

 

I have recently been at my wits end with my children. They are going through that very difficult stage where they are constantly arguing with me and each other. It seems that I am being really negative with them all the time and this does not seem to work in changing their behaviour. A friend of mine suggested that I use rewards instead of sanctions to try and change their behaviour and recommended using star badges as a way of doing this. I was intrigued and asked her how I could use star badges to improve their behaviour. She explained that I tell the children if they follow certain rules for a whole week then they would receive star badges at the end of the week if they managed not to break the rules I had imposed. Obviously, she said I would have to pick my rules carefully and not choose too many goals for them to attain. Also, she told me that the rules should be relatively easy for them to follow otherwise they might get disheartened and revert to their bad behaviour. Well, I have to say it has worked a treat so far. We are the second week in and, although in the first week, they both failed to reach their targets, they knew I meant business. At the end of the second week they have both reached their goals beautifully.

 

School Notepads

 

School notepads can be used for all sorts of exercises in school, small and narrow notepads for instance will more likely be used for spelling tests in school and for the children to take home lists of words to learn. Notepads do come in all sorts of shapes and sizes though so that they can be used for all topics but each notepad will be for one topic only, which has proven to be quite a good idea as the parent and the teacher can easily flick through the notepad to see the progress of the child taking shape throughout the school year or term. Then it will be shown clearly which topics the child may need a little extra help in. Having individual School notepads also gives the child or student a sense of identity so they do not feel just part of the crowd. At the end of the school year most kids are allowed to take them home to keep which allows them to share their work with the rest of their friends and family. Most schools choose to buy School notepads in bulk as it often works out much cheaper especially now that the schools can order on line too.

 

School Pencils

 

School pencils can be used for all parts of school life but mostly of course for handwriting. In primary school for instance: the days are long gone when you have to bring your own pens and pencils to school. In fact most primary schools would prefer you to not let your child or children bring in their own stationary. There are always more than enough pencils to go around and always a sharpener around too, to keep them in good condition. School pencils are great for when your child is leaning to write much better than trying with a pen straight away as this can often put kids off learning to write, using a pen comes much later. School pencils can be ordered for a very reasonable fee on line by the schools themselves and buying in large quantities will cut the price down too. There are many types to choose from but the school will be aware of which pencils work best for them based on their past experience.

 

School Water Bottles

 

It is essential that we now have school water bottles in every school whether, primary, secondary school, a comp school or even a private school. Drinking water has now been proven to enhance concentration and if dehydration does occur it can dramatically effect how well a child performs, as performance decreases a lot if a child is dehydrated. School water bottles will constantly remind children and teenagers of course to drink throughout the school day as many cannot be bothered to get up and go and get a drink even when their body is telling them that they are thirsty, as thirst can be often mistaken for hunger. If the water is always visible they are much more likely to drink it and keep drinking it. School water bottles can be ordered on line in small quantities use but also can be ordered in big batches by schools themselves to then sell on to parents and students. The bottles can be personalised to the school as well, with a panel for them to write their name in permanent ink.

 

Recycled Bookmarks

 

Recycled Bookmarks is a word that was once only used to refer only to objects that were used by a reader to mark a certain page of a book or notebook. Nowadays, Internet sites with personal preferences are marked through using bookmarks. Nevertheless, standard and traditional bookmarks are still very important and are in common use. These traditional bookmarks have also become a collectable, especially ones that are designed to commemorate events or personalities. Bookmarks have been around for a long time, and they date centuries back. They used to be handmade Recycled Bookmarks available before the printed kind came into being. Sometimes, a picture, a flower, a leaf, a piece of paper, scrap of cloth or even a card or ticket was also used as a bookmark. These are still used a lot. A bookmark fixed with magnets is popular, as it does not fall out of a book, and remains secure.
