Fun days out on the cheap

It’s nearly that time mums and dads. The summer holidays are within grasp and you know what that means, the kids want to be entertained!

This can be expensive depending on what you decide to do with your brood, but there are ways to have fun without blowing a huge hole in your bank balance.

We’ve been scratching our heads at Westfield thinking of places to go that don’t cost a fortune over the summer, and we think these suggestions might actually work!

See if you agree.

Have a...

Picnic in the park

Picnics in parks are tons of fun.  You have tons of outdoor space to enjoy, there are plenty of play facilities for the kids, you can take bats and balls with you and the best bit is parks are free to enter!

Get the whole family involved, let them choose their favourite food and decide which park you are going to visit. Try a different park for a change, you might have to take a short journey in the car but all it will cost you is the price of the petrol and the cost of the food.

Woodland walk

Clip the lead on the dog, take a packed lunch in a rucksack and explore a forest or a woodland trail. Turn the walk through the woodland into a nature ramble, see how much wildlife you can spot and find a nice area to tuck into your lunch.

Kids love exploring, so ‘big’ the woodland walk up a bit, make mini maps if you have to and tap into their sense of adventure.

Cycle ride

Hitch bikes to a cycle carrier on the family chariot. Head to a cycle path and spend the day enjoying the countryside.

Pedal power rules on warm, sunny days. Pack a lunch, take plenty of sunscreen and a decent supply of water and see how far you can cycle in a day.

The good thing about cycle rides is your little ones will be tuckered out at the end of the day, so hopefully you’ll have some quality adult time together and be able to unwind after your ‘family’ day.

A day in a museum

Plenty of museums offer free entrance to patrons and they’re full of fab facts and interesting artefacts.

You could fill an entire day spent walking around a museum. It’s certainly worth taking a trip in the car to a natural history museum, this is a fun day and it’s totally free!

A camping trip

Camping is a fun activity as well and the good news is, you don’t have to travel far to pitch a tent. Chuck a pop up tent at the ground in your back garden, let your kids play in it during the day and sleep in it with them at night.

Organise a camp over at your house, it costs nothing and we guarantee; you’ll have stacks of fun!

Whatever you do, enjoy yourself this summer with a range of cheap activities.
