Great ways to prepare for school sport’s day

We love school sport’s day at Westfield, our team has fond memories of sack races, happy recollections of bean bag throwing and a few flashbacks of disasters involving eggs and spoons. School sport’s day is all about fun. Sure, it’s a chance to compete but it’s more about team work and enjoying a special day towards the end of the summer term. You can help your child prepare for sport’s day in a number of ways, try these ideas to make the occasion memorable. Slap on the sun screen – Hopefully the weather will be sunny during your child’s sports day so provide them with plenty of skin protection. Liberally apply sun cream in the morning before you set off for school and get your child to take the cream with them, ask them to reapply it throughout the day. Provide a sports cap – Heat stroke is quite common in hot weather, your child will be spending plenty of time exposed to the elements and if the day is sunny it’s a good idea to give them head protection. A sports cap is a good solution, they’ll feel sporty, look the part, and their head will be covered as well, we have a good selection of sports caps in stock right now. Fill a bottle with water – All that running about is bound to make your little Olympian thirsty so fill a sports bottle with water at the start of the day and they’ll be able to take on fluids after each event and stay hydrated for the games. Again, we have a range of school water bottles in stock ready to fuel-up thirsty athletes. Practice at home – Okay, this is where ‘competitive parent syndrome’ kicks in but who cares, you want your child to win! Practice throwing bean bags in the back garden, boil a few eggs and see how far they get running with a spoon, time them to show what their sprint times are like and turn up on the day hoping to see your child on the winner’s rostrum. Tell them to have fun – Joking apart, the whole point of sport’s day is for your child to relax and have a little fun after all their hard work in school. Tell them it doesn’t matter where they come on the day it’s the taking part that counts. If they win a prize that’s brilliant, if not, ask them not to worry, all you want is for them to enjoy the day.
